Some family sessions are filled with quiet moments, while others are full of movement, laughter, and constant connection. This Tunnel Springs Park family session was definitely the second—and I loved every minute of it.

Tunnel Springs is one of my favorite locations for family photography in Salt Lake City because it offers rolling green hills, wide-open spaces, and gorgeous golden light that creates beautiful images no matter where the sun is. During this session, we photographed in full sun, side light, and backlight, proving that you don't need perfect conditions to create timeless family photos. When you embrace the light instead of fighting it, every part of a session can feel magical.

Rather than focusing on perfectly posed smiles, we spent the evening playing games, dancing through the fields, spinning in circles, and simply enjoying time together. The girls laughed as they held their parents' hands, everyone twirled around the grassy hillsides, and the genuine joy they shared made every photograph feel authentic.

One of my favorite moments was watching the whole family link hands and walk together across the hills. It wasn't about looking at the camera—it was about being together. Those are the moments that tell your family's story years from now.

I always encourage families to let go of the pressure to have "perfectly behaved" kids during a session. Some of the best photographs happen in between poses—when someone starts laughing unexpectedly, a parent steals a kiss on the cheek, or everyone breaks into a dance. Those unscripted moments are the ones you'll treasure the most.
